GEO for Singapore SMEs: Getting Recommended by AI

AI engines reward clarity and specificity, not size – here’s the 90-day plan we use at iTechStudio and what it costs.

Singapore SMEs can win AI recommendations because AI engines reward clarity and specificity, not size: a business that publishes its services, prices, location and FAQs clearly gets quoted ahead of a vague enterprise page. This guide gives the 90-day plan we use at iTechStudio and what it costs in time and money.

Why AI search matters in Singapore specifically

Singapore Marina Bay skyline at dusk
Singapore’s Marina Bay – one of the world’s most competitive small markets, and one of the first where Google switched on AI Mode.

Google’s AI Mode is live in Singapore, AI Overviews appear on most commercial queries, and customers increasingly ask ChatGPT and Gemini for “best X near me” shortlists. We watched this shift arrive prompt by prompt while building ApexIntent – the change isn’t coming, it’s here.

The good news for SMEs: local signals – a Singapore address, SGD prices, local terms like PSG or CBD – are strong disambiguation signals for AI engines. A clearly-described Tampines clinic beats a vaguely-described regional chain on a “near Tampines” prompt.

The 90-day SME plan

The first two weeks are foundation work. Days 1–14: an entity audit, schema markup, consistent contact details and a complete Google Business Profile. Unglamorous, mostly one-off, and it decides whether anything later works.

Then you build the pages AI actually quotes. Days 15–45: definition-first service pages, a pricing page, one comparison page and FAQ blocks. Days 46–75 move off your own site – directory and review profiles, LinkedIn founder posts, partner mentions. And days 76–90 close the loop: an AI-visibility rerun, then fix whichever topic cluster came back weakest.

Budget levels

Doing it yourself costs S$0 plus about 10 hours a month. Work through sections A to C of our GEO audit checklist – everything there is doable without an agency.

The GEO retainer route runs S$600, S$1,200 or S$2,000 per month depending on breadth of scope – see the GEO service page. Our SEO plans (pricing published on the SEO page) cover the crawlability and authority foundation GEO builds on.

On grants: iTechStudio is a PSG-eligible IT vendor for software projects (up to 50%, capped at S$30,000 a year) – the software side of a project may qualify; marketing retainers are not PSG-funded. We’d rather tell you that upfront than let a salesperson imply otherwise.

Industries where we see the fastest movement

Education and training providers, clinics and wellness, B2B services, F&B brands and eCommerce stores – categories where customers already ask AI for shortlists. If your buyers compare before they commit, you’re in the fast lane whether you signed up for it or not.

What to expect month by month

Month 1: schema and entity data visible to crawlers. Months 2–3: first mentions on Perplexity and Google AI Overviews for niche prompts. Month 3 and beyond: ChatGPT and Gemini movement and competitor displacement on comparison prompts. Anyone promising faster is guessing – the indexes refresh on their own schedule, not ours.

Frequently asked questions

Is GEO worth it for a five-person company?

Yes, if your customers research before buying – the foundation work is largely a one-off.

Do I need a new website?

No – we add pages and schema to existing WordPress and Elementor sites.

Can I use PSG for GEO?

PSG covers pre-approved IT solutions, not marketing retainers; ask us which parts of your project qualify.
