Generative Engine Optimisation Turning Embedding Data Into Impact

Once you’ve mapped your site’s content clusters using embeddings and cosine similarity, you’ve already stepped into the next phase of digital optimisation — Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO).

But the question remains: what comes next?
How can you use this data to strengthen your online authority and help AI engines understand — and recommend — your content?

This guide walks through the practical steps to turn cluster data into lasting gains for both traditional SEO and modern GEO.

1. Identify Strong and Weak Content Clusters

Strong and Weak Content Clusters

Every cluster represents a topic family — for instance, “SEO strategy,” or “Data and AI”.
Your first task is to evaluate how balanced these clusters are.

Look for:

  • Dense clusters: Topics you already cover thoroughly.

  • Sparse clusters: Valuable themes with too few supporting pages.

  • Loose clusters: Pages that overlap or confuse AI about your main focus.

Action

Strengthen the underdeveloped clusters that align with your high-value services or key audience searches.

Sometimes these may also be interesting content that are in trend. For example, the company may create content on news that draws organic traffic, these should also be considered in the content planning and cluster analysis phase.

These areas are where AI and search engines may currently under-recognise your expertise.

2. Remove Duplicate Content

Duplicate Content

Clusters often expose hidden duplication. When multiple pages target similar ideas with nearly identical embeddings, they may be competing for the same semantic space — diluting your topical authority.

This is also an overlap with SEO, which performs check for overlapping content such as
Duplicate meta descriptions
Duplicate Title Tags
Duplicate Pages

Either through the cluster or the seo audit, both methods will allow users and web masters to perform the necessary changes.

Action

To correct this:

  • Merge or restructure overlapping articles.

  • Link related pages under one clear topic hub.

  • Standardise headings and keywords to reinforce hierarchy.

3. Fill the Gaps with Targeted New Content

Low-density clusters or “orphan” embeddings indicate content gaps — subjects that interest both your readers and AI, but that your site doesn’t yet address.

Action

Use reverse prompting and semantic search tools to find these opportunities.

For example, if your “SEO strategy” cluster includes “on-page optimisation” and “keyword research” but lacks “schema markup,” that’s an immediate area to expand.

By filling these semantic gaps, you signal completeness to both search algorithms and generative engines.

4. Build Bridges Between Clusters

Strengthen SEO topical authority

Some clusters naturally connect — such as “Math Tuition” and “Physics Tuition,” or “Web Design” and “Content Strategy.”

Building inter-cluster bridges strengthens your brand’s perceived depth of expertise.

Action

  • Cross-reference related topics within articles. (Internal linking, content relevance and cross article reference.)

  • Publish connecting posts

5. Measure and Track GEO Progress

Traditional SEO relies on rankings, CTR, and backlinks.
GEO adds new semantic performance metrics that reflect how well your site is understood by AI:

  • Embedding Drift: Measures whether updated content moves closer to its ideal cluster.

  • AI Citation Rate: Tracks how often your content is referenced in AI engines like Perplexity or Gemini.

  • Topical Visibility: Evaluates your presence in conversational queries and generative summaries.

*Semantic Cannibalisation:

If you have multiple pages partially overlapping, the GEO may:

  • Merge them semantically

  • Decide incorrectly which is “best fit”

  • Demote the weaker page

  • Show the “wrong page” for the query

This often results in drops to positions:

  • 11–20

  • 21–30

This is known as semantic cannibalisation, different from traditional keyword cannibalisation.

Continue the GEO Optimisations

When your content clusters are clearly structured, internally linked, and routinely measured, your website becomes more than searchable — it becomes understandable.
